Domain Name Advice
Think carefully before registering a domain name
You domain name will be the address of your web site and your email address. It will appear on your marketing material including your headed paper and business cards.
Wherever possible it should contain all, or part of, your company name and be easily remembered.
If you domain name is too long it may not fit on a business card and display poorly on company brochures and note paper.
I.E. A company called Anthony Smith Car Repair Specialists are accident repair specialists.
The domain name for the web site could be www.anthonysmithcarrepairspecialists.co.uk and the email could be jonathan.smith@jonathansmithcarrepairspecialists.co.uk.
A better solution is www.jscarrepairs.co.uk with an email address of j.smith@jscarrepairs.co.uk.
In some cases a correctly a registered domain name can enhance a generic result in some search engine listings although this is always subject to change.
TLD's
TLD's or Top Level Domains as they are known can show where you business is located.
I.E. .co.uk TLD's tend to be used by UK businesses, .fr France, .it Italy etc etc.
The exception to the rule is .com TLD's which can, and are, used by companies worldwide.
We advise all clients to register, where possible both the .co.uk and .com versions of their domain name to protect their future business.
